Volunteering at Beechworth Health Service

Do you enjoy meeting people?  Are you interested in active community involvement?  Do you have time to share with others?  If you answered ‘yes’ to any of these questions, then volunteering at Beechworth Health Service could be an option for you.

The essential elements of volunteering include providing a service to the community because you want to, without monetary reward.  Volunteering is all about gaining a sense of satisfaction by helping others and having fun at the same time.  It’s also a valuable opportunity to learn new and important life skills.

Volunteers from the community are currently needed in all program areas of the Health Service. Whilst many programs are located at Beechworth, others are in Yackandandah and Tangambalanga. We need ‘visiting friends’ for our residents, many of whom are lonely and have little contact with the community in which they live or you may be able to help increase the number of outings that residents and Club Connection members can enjoy. Do you play a musical instrument, play cards, able to read aloud, play bowls, wish to support patients and their family through a terminal illness, able to arrange flowers?? We can link you to the right program to use your talents.

If you are able to spare even half an hour now and then to be a companion for someone, to have a chat, to walk or wheel our residents, to help with craft activities or bus outings, or just to listen, then:

Please contact the Volunteer Coordinator at Beechworth Health Service on 03 5728 0200.

Volunteers will have the opportunity to undertake training to help ease them into their role. Insurance for volunteers is held by the organisation - volunteers are encouraged to find out details. Currently insurance for volunteers over 80 years of age is limited.
